About Our Parish

The Parish of St. Patricks in Grenada is part of the Anglican Diocese of the Windward Islands of the Church in the Province of The West Indies which is a part of the World Wide Anglcan Communion.

St. Patricks is situated to the north of Grenda, the parish church (St. Patricks) is located in Sauters, traces its history back to the 18th century. In 1721, the French established a Catholic Church, however, in 1784 the British handed it over to the Anglicans. The church was later destroyed by fire and the present building was built.

Since then it has served the needs of its members and the wider community in various ways and has given birth to other congregations within the parish. As it responded to the needs of those beyond the town of Sauteurs, the congregation of St. Mary, in the agricultural village of Hermitage was started on lands donated to the parish. Not too far from there is St. Francis in Mt. Rich which began after a donatation by the Kent family of an estate house which included a slave pen.

After the passage of Hurricane Ivan in 2004, the building was severly damaged and the congregation now worships jointly at St. Mary's. However with the advent of our new Rector, we have started monthly open-air whorship services along with weekly mission services in homes and have also resumed efforts in colaboration with others to secure, renovate and develop new ministries based on the needs of the parish.

Apart from our congregations, our parish also operates the St. Patricks Anglican Primary School, which has been in operation for over 175 years. There are currently over 235 students with a staff of 16 teachers. The prinicipal is Ms. Wilma Alexander and the Rector is the manager.

The parish also owns a bus which is used primarily to assist children in the community to attend school at a lower cost. There is a volunteer team of driers and conductors headed by Deacon Clean, our assisting cleargy.
