The Reverend Dr. Thomas W.O. Mayers

Father Mayers is our Rector and has been with us officialy, since May 1st 2012. He was installed during a special service of Installation, Induction and Celebration of New Ministry onTuesday, August 28th, 2012, being the Feast of St. Augustine of Hippo. The service was very moving and inspiring. His Lordship, The Rt. Rev'd C. Leopold Friday, Bishop of the Diocese of The Windward Islands was the Chief Celebrant and preacher. Archdeacon of Grenada, The Venerable Christian Glasgow, the former rector of St. Patrick read the mandate and seated the new Rector. Many other clergy and laity participated in the service and shared in a wonderful reception.

 

Father Mayers has come to share with us after serving as an ordained minister for over 28 years in different parts of the Anglican Communion. He was born and raised in Guyana. After finishing high school, he worked in the public service for oer 4 years before pursuing undergraduate studies in business administration and seminary in Santo Domingo, in  The Dominican Republic. After his ordination as a deacon, he went to Codrington College where he did a term of elective studies.

 

He then went back to The Domincan Republic where he married Altagracia, "the answer to his prayers". They went to Guyana where he was ordained as a priest, did his curacy and served as Priest-In-Charge of two parishes before migrating to the United States and was later joined by his wife and children.

 

In New York, he served as an assistant clergy in praishes in the Diocese of Long Island and the Diocese of New York and was also the minister in charge of Hispanic Ministry in the Diocese of Long Island. Then in 1991, he was called to serve in the Diocese of Massachusetts as the Rector of St. Mark's in Boston. During that time Father Mayers continued graduate studies and earned a Masters in Educaton at Cambridge College and a Doctorate in Mission/Evangelism at the Episcopal Divinity School.

 

After seventeen years at St. Mark's, he was called to serve in the Diocese of Michigan at All Saints Parish, Detroit. After leaving Detroit, Father Mayers went back to Massachusetts and worked as an independent consultant on Evangelism and Church Growth before he was called to serve in St. Patrick.

 

Father Mayers loves to serve God, wherever he is called. He loves to preach and is deeply committed to share the power of Prayer and Spirituality and he has a passion for Evangelism/Church and Youth Ministry.

 

His wife and children are currently living in Massachusetts. His wife is Altagracia and their children are Luis, Denisse and Daniel, all young adults. Luis and Denise haved finished college and Daniel is planning to graduate from college in May.
